Life on a Shoe String

Since returning from Portugal and getting a whiff of life outside of the UK, I've been reassessing my priorities and am now living on a shoe string budget in order to one day travel the world.  This budget comprises of a few main ingredients

  • pretending you are living on the dole (not watching daytime TV, that would be going too far).  But yes, living on a dole budget of £60 per week for food and travel. Because I travel to work I have had to factor in an extra £25 for fuel.  so the budget is in fact £85.
  • no spending sprees on nice clothes
  • no eating out
  • no takeaways
  • basically no treats or extras.
As you can imagine this is quite severe.  The end game however is some time abroad in exotic and sunny climes.

I've only been on this budget 1 week.  Surprisingly I have not found it too hard resisting:
  • a bracelet from Lan Lloft shop in Lampeter for £15.
  • A pair of shoes on E-Bay -£9.99
  • A takeaway from Shapla tandoori - £11.00
  • Extras in the weekly shop - £30
  • magazines such as Red £4 (one kindly purchased by chef today)
So, I've saved this week - £70 - which if I keep it up amounts to £3.5k per year.  Which soon mounts up to lots of wonga!
